April 2: “Escaping the Housing Trap: The Strong Towns Response to the Housing Crisis.” High housing costs are having a crippling effect on the working poor, newcomers, older populations with limited incomes, and renters. Yet those high housing values are essential for the long term well-being of so many who depend on the asset value of their home as a key part of their long term plan for aging in place. We've established a system where prices can't go down without harming a large swathe of our population and yet those staggeringly high prices are harming an ever larger population. Learn how a strategy for gradual neighbourhood change with a renewed cottage industry of small scale developers is essential as a pathway out of our current crisis.

April 3: “What It Takes to Build Lasting Prosperity: The Illusion of Wealth and the Long Term Health of our Communities”. In our pursuit of immediate growth and wealth, we've often overlooked the foundational elements that contribute to lasting prosperity in our communities. The Strong Towns approach emphasizes the importance of incremental development and financial productivity, advocating for investments that enhance long-term resilience rather than short-term gains. By focusing on sustainable growth and community engagement, we can build communities that are not only financially stable but also vibrant and enduring.
