Raise your hand if you are tired of waiting in the drop-off line every morning just to get your child to school — or if you are tired of seeing that drop-off line snake through your neighborhood, spewing exhaust and taking up precious time for everyone involved. Imagine a world where the majority of kids could safely walk or bike to school. Uytae Lee, the YouTuber behind the popular “Stories About Here” CBC program, has been exploring the issue of car-dependent kid transport in depth. In this session, Lee will share his insights, research and practical strategies for changing the norm of endless drop-off lines to more active, healthy and inexpensive options like biking and walking. This session will delve into the benefits of active commutes for children's (and parents'!) health, the environment and community cohesion, as well as ways to overcome the challenges that come with this transition.
Uytae Lee produces videos that educate and engage the public on urban planning issues. He is the founder of ‘About Here’, a creative studio dedicated to helping people understand their cities better. In addition to his video work, Uytae is an adjunct professor at the UBC School of Journalism and a BC Housing Board commissioner.
