Thomas Jefferson on Sprawl
I previously recommended a podcast called The Thomas Jefferson Hour, which is a weekly show that "interviews" the third president of the United States (depicted by Clay Jenkinson). I find the show to be fascinating and thought-provoking, but especially this week's, which was titled "Cities".
Jefferson discusses architecture, his plans for urban design and some of the shortcomings of the cities of his era. Thomas Jefferson is the single most influential person on the layout of America west of the Appalachian Mountains. It is fascinating to think about how he came to hold his opinions and how he might view today's approach to development.
