ActiveSGV is proud to host Chuck Marohn, founder and president of Strong Towns, in conversation with Rick Cole, former Executive Director of the Congress for New Urbanism and current Planning Commissioner, as they discuss how to build better communities and safer streets for people.
LOCATION: Throop Church | DATE: October 18, 2023 | TIME: 7:00 PM PST
In this special FREE discussion, Strong Towns founder Chuck Marohn will discuss with Rick Cole how unsafe streets lead to unlivable communities, and how the new Crash Analysis Studio helps cities solve this problem.
On a daily basis, across the U.S. we hear about people who are killed in car crashes. The deaths of people walking, biking and children are particularly troubling, and yet these "accidents" keep happening. The “solutions” typically employed by local agencies include enforcement, education, and some small engineering projects, but none of these actions are truly solving the problem.
Street design in the U.S, has been grossly negligent. We need a radical rethinking of the way we address street safety for those outside of a car; people walking, biking, skating, scooting and taking public transit - one that will make streets safer for everyone and make our communities more economically productive in the process.
This presentation shines a vital light on how to build better communities and street safety issues and presents real, long-term solutions.
