The Illusion of Wealth

Important basic infrastructure is falling apart and yet we keep cutting the ribbon on new projects.

Most of us don't have a real understanding of what infrastructure costs and how we contribute to it. Even our local leaders don't factor in the long-term costs of infrastructure expansion. They just keep building in order to scrape by a little longer.

The illusion of wealth has become a way of life for Americans. We're not as rich as we like to tell ourselves we are.

The following video explains the way in which our cities are chasing this illusion of wealth and why it's so harmful to our long-term success. It's part of a series called the Curbside Chat. If you've been a member of Strong Towns for a while, you're probably familiar with it. If not, it's time to acquaint yourself.
