Ask Strong Towns: All Hands On Deck Edition
Earlier this month, as part of our fall member drive, we at Strong Towns experienced a convergence of rare opportunities.
First, a bunch of our staff got to all participate in an episode of our monthly Ask Strong Towns webinar series. Some of the staff may be familiar to you from other webinars and podcasts—founder and president Charles Marohn, communications manager Kea Wilson, community builder Jacob Moses, and senior editor Daniel Herriges. Others you hear from less often: development director Bo Wright and content manager John Pattison. This was a chance for many of us to describe our experience working to grow the Strong Towns movement, as well as to answer questions that came in from attendees.
Second, we also opened up the webinar to as many of you as possible. Members and non-members alike were able to submit questions. We also broadcast live in our Facebook group and fielded questions from there too.
What resulted was a fun and wide-ranging discussion. Topics included, but are not definitely not limited to, reactions to this summer’s series on the land value tax (10:10), the impact of gas stations and convenience stores on the value of surrounding areas (15:55), an update on the Strong Towns book and tour (20:00), why Strong Towns focuses so much of its efforts on publishing and educating the public (34:00), and what people should look for when hiring local officials whose work will make a community stronger or weaker (54:00).
If you’d like to continue the conversation—and we hope you do—we recommend a few options: leave a comment below, join the Strong Towns Facebook group, follow us on Facebook or Twitter, or become a member!
