Two Hours of Your Time Could Bring Your Strong Town or City a Lifetime of Glory
This week is the final week to nominate your town or city for the Strongest Town contest.
What’s that you say? You haven’t heard of the Strongest Town contest? Let us explain:
The Strongest Town contest is our annual bracket competition to highlight the communities that are doing the good work of becoming more livable, more lovable, and more financially resilient. We’re not looking for the perfect community (it doesn’t exist). Rather, we are looking for the towns and cities working to become stronger.
Previous winners include communities in Michigan (two of them), Florida, and Pennsylvania. That means the first four rounds of this contest have been dominated by the eastern third of the continental United States. Now, Chuck and the rest of the Strong Towns staff travels to dozens and dozens of communities around North America each year; we know there are amazing towns and cities west of 90 degrees longitude. Will this be the year we finally get a Strong Town from the midwest, mountain states, or west coast, from Hawaii or Alaska? Will a town or city from Canada (or elsewhere in the world) swoop in and knock us all flat with their walkable downtown and shade trees?
The nomination form is simple and shouldn’t take more than a couple hours to fill out. Anyone can apply. You don’t have to be a government official. Heck, you don’t even need the permission of government officials to nominate your town. A couple hours of your time could result in your town’s name being enshrined forever in the pantheon of Strongest Towns. In fact, this year’s winner will join previous winners at our Strong Towns National Conference in Pensacola, Florida.
