Lanier Hagerty

Lanier Hagerty recently graduated Columbia University’s M.S. Urban Planning program. She studied urban data analytics and international planning and was selected as a fellow to work with a New York-based affordable housing nonprofit. Prior to graduate school, Lanier lived in Beijing and worked as an investigator with a global corporate research and investigations firm. While in China, she developed an appreciation for the ways in which social and political systems influence our built environment.

Lanier holds an undergraduate degree in culture and politics from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service. It was there where she was first exposed to theories of geography, urbanism, and the power of spatial analysis. She has since developed her expertise in GIS and found her passion studying land use, land valuation, and the politics of land tenure.

Lanier was born in South Carolina and has lived in the midwest, northeast, and abroad. She is now happily settled in Asheville.
