Taking a Hike on Walk Score Mountain
Curious about the relationship between financial productivity and walkability, our friend Josh McCarty at Urban3 took data from Walk Score — a site that calculates the walk-friendliness of locations all over the world — and combined it with data on tax value per acre in Durham, NC.
In the video below, Josh walks us through the results with a three-dimensional visualization showing that the most walkable places also tend to be the most financially productive, and he discusses the implications of this with Chuck Marohn. Josh also overlays other data like street maps, parking lot coverage and city age with WalkScore data to further illustrate the concept.
